The metropolitan has top speed around 40mph. I hear 25mph going up hills. Average is maybe 30-35, really depends on where you are driving and how fast.

What is the average speed that a Honda Metropolitan scooter can go?unless u get the full sized scooter; silverwing or berghman; these 50cc leaf blowers can only be used on 2 lane roads....not high speed freeways. they'll go more than 30, but when closing in on max speed, they start to get a bad shimmy.
The Honda metro very likely CAN do a bit over 30 mph. have no idea if those things are produced with any restrictions or not. No matter, 35mph is about maxing out a 50cc on a normal scooter frame.

It uses a GY6 engine built under license by Linhai in Communist China, but is as well made as any ever produced in Japan or else where. The GY6 is pretty much the 'universal' scooter engine for this size and parts are easily obtained, (even if the scoot is Chinese this is true). Most jurisdictions by law limit the legal top speed of a 'moped' to 30mph under its own power on level ground. How that regulation is enforced is a matter of each locality. It is ignored in my area. Lots of 50ccs with mods run around 50mph on a regular basis, personally, on 10" wheels I think it unwise to go above the 45-50mph range. What is the average speed that a Honda Metropolitan scooter can go?There are two different ones.

The Met II does 30mph, and qualifys as a Moped as it does not exceed 30.

I have a Met I which does 38mph. Endorsement required! Great in traffic too as it slams up to 38 and holds it too!. bright lights, elec start.

there ARE mods for it from Battlescooter.com!

Here is a real answer!

The Metropolitan can go 30, watch out for the met II, it's a Different bike! The Met II is a slowpoke, and is difficult to modify. The Met is a sturdy urban assault vehicle!

If you wish to hop it up, I don't recommend it. I would go for a Kymco People S50, which will do 45 unlocked.

If 30 to 35 is fine, check out the Ruckus, it's quicker than the Met, and is more rustic looking.

My friend tops out her Met I at around 37-38mph. As others have posted, watch out for the Met II. It is HEAVILY restricted and not worth the hassle.

On a side note, state/local regulations regarding licensing requirements, insurance, areas of operation, etc. vary WIDELY. Some states consider it a 'motorized bicycle' and have few requirements, while other states treat it like a motorcycle. Check your local regulations.
