How difficult will it be to get parts for Toyota vehicle repairs due to the earthquake in Japan?

I am considering buying a Japanese car with great gas mileage. Will it be a hassle to have it serviced and repaired? How difficult will it be to get parts for Toyota vehicle repairs due to the earthquake in Japan? No. It won't be a problem.

1. 80% of the cars Toyota sells in the U.S. are made in the U.S. with mostly U.S. parts.

2. The Toyotas that are made in Japan (like the Prius) may have lost as much as two week's production. In addition, the Prius is very low maintenance, mostly just oil and filter changes.

3. Dealers are required by their dealer agreement with Toyota to stock a certain amount of parts. In addition, Toyota has regions which also stocks parts.

2004 Prius MPG from the logbook. (Complete years only):
2003-2004 -- 50.8 mpg 17,628 miles
2005 -- 52.6 mpg 14,688 miles
2006 -- 56.3 mpg 16174 miles
2007 -- 57.3 mpg 18384 miles
2008 -- 59.9 mpg 21755 miles
2009 -- 61.4 mpg 16177 miles
2010 -- 65.2 mpg 12134 milesHow difficult will it be to get parts for Toyota vehicle repairs due to the earthquake in Japan?Jerry the Prius fan is a little optimistic. There are indeed parts shortages and the pipeline is rapidly emptying so more shortages are coming. I have been waiting over 6 months for an engine control module for my 07 Corolla. Longer term, parts will be available. An older car is more likely to have parts available than a newer one. Check with a local parts house (not a Toyota dealer) and ask about your specific model and whether they are experiencing many shortages. How difficult will it be to get parts for Toyota vehicle repairs due to the earthquake in Japan?Parts? What parts- oil filters, sparkplugs and brake pads? Don't worry, there will be all you need by the time you need them. If you smash the car though, bumpers, radiators and fenders might take a little while to build up inventory, but there isn't that much call all the time. I'm not worried about service on my 2010 Corolla LE. Look at how they dealt with the recalls of all the new cars a year ago. It was carried out very quickly and efficiently. The press just loves to keep telling you to not buy Toyota ever since Toyota took the number one position away from GM.How difficult will it be to get parts for Toyota vehicle repairs due to the earthquake in Japan?
I wouldn't worry about it.
