Why does the government think they have the right to fine Toyota?

It's as clear as day that Obama's administration wants to destroy Toyota so that big competion won't interfere with Obama's newly bought GM.Why does the government think they have the right to fine Toyota? All these detailed, nit-picky issues annoy me. When we return to the principles laid out by our creator, many of these social issue will go away. I hope that we will remove ourselves from the immediate and tangible, and observe our world through the eyes of God. Please, all who read this, let's work on it. Most of these 'issues' shouldn't be issues, if we simply adhere to the basic principles presented to us through the ages - tried and true. Why does the government think they have the right to fine Toyota?
Toyota knew about the problem since 2007....State Farm Insurance company advised them of the issue...they did NOTHING...and that is acceptable? Companies pollute and are fined...do you think they should not be?

ROFLMAO...Obama did not buy GM....you people are so sad!

And don't tell me you are so uninformed that you knew nothing about the Chrysler issue in the '80s and how the federal government helped....

This does not sound like he bought anything:

Hartford, GM Repay $4.4 Bln Of Bailout Funds; TARP Repayments Reach $181 Bln - Update

Meanwhile, automaker General Motors Co. has also made the second quarterly loan payment of $1.0 billion on March 31 as per its commitment made to the U.S. Government. Why does the government think they have the right to fine Toyota? You know, I bought my new 2009 Corolla in 2008 because I had the idea it was safe, and a great car. Well, after sitting in the dealership to have 2 recalls fixed, I was annoyed. Finding out they knew about the accelerator problems in 2007 really just made me mad.

I have 3 kids, you know fix the dang problem when you discover it.

They deserve some kind of punishment for that alone. You can't get away with that stuff. Look at their declining sales now, there is no way I would buy one again.
Especially when they found out some of the claims were phony. Drivers didn't know that Toyotas had black boxes in them recording the fact that they never hit the brakes. Ooops wrong pedal. I'll blame it on the car.Why does the government think they have the right to fine Toyota?I have a strong feeling Obama had nothing to do with this.

But this one makes no sense to me - Toyota is already getting BADLY punished by falling car sales - what do we have to punish them for?Why does the government think they have the right to fine Toyota?
That's the trouble with GOVERNMENT RUN INDUSTRIES...

Can anyone be sure... that the GOVERNMENT is acting as our PROTECTOR/LEGISLATOR... or as a COMPETITOR.
Probably because Toyota put an unsafe product on the road that resulted in multiple deaths. Why do you like Japanese companies more than America? Why does the government think they have the right to fine Toyota?
Buying a Toyota and dying a horrible death due to a faulty product should be enough incentive not to buy one.
US Department of transportation can do that because toyota is selling cars in America. If toyota don't like it, they can leave!
Be careful when asking questions about our President you just might offend some imature people on here.

To answer your question what do you expect from him he is looking to take over everything like we told you he would.
Because Toyota knowingly sold faulty cars that killed people. Obama doesn't own GM, its a private company again.
Conspiracy theories, anyone?
Since that's clear as day, why bother asking why? Apparently, you already know...
No he wants the dangerous cars that runs away on their own and kilss.
That is so completely wrong. Hey, maybe we should quit regulating car safety altogether.
They do have the right. Toyota operates on our shores.

And did you know GM bought it's way out of the government?
Oh god, here we go.
