What american muscle cars are similar in size to the 1974 toyota celica?

I plan on purchasing a 74 celica gt. I like the performance of american muscle but I just have problems with how big they are. Are there any american muscle cars from the 60s and 70s that are similar to the 74 celica. Gained a lot of insight. Also, not to sound like a jerk but I was well aware that muscle cars by far outsize an import economy car. I was just looking for something closest in size even if it was by a large gap. But all the cars everyone recommended definitely peaked my interests. Thanks everyone!

What american muscle cars are similar in size to the 1974 toyota celica?The closest car I've seen in size to a Celica that is American Muscle is the Dodge Dart but even that was bigger than the Celica by quite a bit. A muscle car is just that.... muscle. They were usually just pedestrian cars with huge, powerful engines. If handling is important to you, you weren't going to find it in an American brand from those years. The Shelby Cobra was about it and even that wasn't completely made in America. The chassis was made in Englad and the powertrain was made in America.
If you are using the term "muscle car" fairly loosely, a V8-powered Mustang II or Chevy Monza/Pontiac Sunbird come pretty close in size. The Monza was a good car. I had a V6 4-speed that was a lot of fun. A V8 would be even funner. Travis C mentioned the Fox-bodied Mustang, another good car, and the Corvair.The Corvair had a bad reputation that was started by Satan... er, I mean Ralph Nader. The car was determined safe by the US government and Nader went on to become a perpetual loser in presidential elections. The Corvair is a little bit bigger than the Toyota, Mustang and Monza. but i think public acceptance in the muscle car was a factor. those weren't considered muscle cars by most, but they were.

i don't wholely agree with the deff that "muscle" cars denote "large" platforms. there are tons of mid sized ones.
rambler/amc had the 390, ferd the boss 429, chevy the aluminium 427, and the elephant from mopar. they could be found in mid sized platforms.

and the one that arguably started it all! the "GTO" option on a mid sized lemans platform.

On the other hand, you can drive the living whee out of a little Celica without attracting too much attention of the wrong kind. I did it for seventeen years ('75 GT, 5-speed), with all of 96 hp. (Hit 102 mph on a country road once with two people aboard.)
