How can I make the in-built satellite navigation system in my Toyota Prius work?

The screen states that it requires an 'external connection'. What does this mean and how can I make it work?How can I make the in-built satellite navigation system in my Toyota Prius work?It means three things:



1) You are driving a 2001, 2002, or 2003 model year Prius.



2) You bought it used, otherwise you'd already know the answer.



3) The car that you own did not come equipped with a navigation system. That was a $2100 option on those model years.



Regardless of whether the car has the navigation system installed or not, all those model years have the buttons on the dashboard for the navigation system. If you push one of those buttons on a car that does not have the navigation system installed, then you get the error message you mentioned.



Look under both of the front seats. The navigation system, if it is present, is typically found under the right front seat. My guess is you'll find nothing there, other than crumpled-up fast food wrappers and an old french fry or two. Sorry.



It is possible, but extremely expensive, to add the navigation system to a car that didn't have it originally. The entire dashboard needs to be ripped apart, for starters. Plan on spending $4000 to do it, due to many hours of labor charges.

If you bought it recently than you should have a navigation DVD that should enable the navigation system.
