I question this from the beginning, considering the type and age of the driver and the more that is revealed the more sure I am it is a fake. Does anyone else agree with this conclusion?Do any others think the Toyota Prius run away was a staged stunt?I think the guy on the California freeway was definitely a staged event. I saw an interview with this guy yesterday who is in the "adult entertainment" business and recently declared bankruptcy. He said he reached down and tried to pull up the gas pedal, and then got out his cell phone and dialed 911. The operator told him to put the car in neutral. He was asked if he tried that and he said "no, I was too busy trying to control the car to be distracted moving the shift lever". I find that difficult to believe.
As far as the one earlier this week where the driver ran into a brick wall I suspect they simply stepped on the wrong pedal but that one is still under investigationDo any others think the Toyota Prius run away was a staged stunt?
The "type" and age of the driver have nothing to do with it. I do believe it was fake and planned, but not for the reasons you believe.
The owner has not made payments on the car for a few months, they have recently filed for bankruptcy and have no money. They were just trying to get out of paying for the car and possibly suing. So they took advantage of the recall and tried to benefit from the worldwide media coverage toyota is currently under.Do any others think the Toyota Prius run away was a staged stunt?I believe the driver was an idiot but, I don't believe it was staged. I'll tell you why. The main reason being, the driver has not filed any form of complaint or lawsuit. There was no damage done and no injuries, either. The owner of the car has not done any press conferences or done any publicity type meetings. Usually, if staged, they would be soaking up as much publicity as possible. Also, the driver isn't being investigated by the police. They have said that there is no evidence of it being staged.
I have been driving since I was 15 years old. I don't know any type of transmission that's difficult to put into Neutral. Some are tricky to get into reverse but, never neutral. That was his reasoning to not putting the car in neutral, because he wasn't familiar with the new transmission and didn't want it to flip or some crap like that. So, I'm going with not staged but, just dumb. I've spoken with my wife and quizzed her a little bit about what she would do if it happened to her. She drives a Toyota, so it's relevant. Even she, without me having to tell her, knew to put the car in neutral and shut it off to prevent it from blowing the engine. In neutral, it will just roll to a stop and allow you to move the car out of the way in the process.
There is no way that can be provenDo any others think the Toyota Prius run away was a staged stunt?50% of these are completely fake 50% are just idiot drivers.Do any others think the Toyota Prius run away was a staged stunt?
I totally believe it is staged. He is not the only one
I have believed this particular incident was a hoax from the beginning. The brakes obviously didn't fail (they were seriously worn and smoking). Everybody who believes the Prius is so overpowered it can't be controlled with brakes raise your hand... go ahead... anybody? I checked it out with my own Prius and it takes a light left foot on the brakes to keep the car from coming to a quick stop when the accelerator is floored (my 2002 does not shut down under the same conditions the second and third generation Prius cars do).
It is impossible to avoid the conclusion the driver was deliberately working the accelerator and brake to produce these results. I can't speculate on his motivation, but the facts are solidly against his story.Do any others think the Toyota Prius run away was a staged stunt?
The fact is, when you build low quality cars, you open yourself up to a few bad people to take advantage of you. The majority of these claims are very real and Toyota continues to lie about the real problem. Toyota's quality has been going down for many years and they are paying the price for it now.
Don't know but,the fact that people may exploit a problem, does not mean there is not a serious problem. I am sure that serious problems do exist and Toyota has done everything possible to cover up
I agree....There will be alot of people to join this band wagon!!!
I agree this is all just a big hype to seriously bring down Toyota....
Quote 1
"Toyota Corp. spokesman Mike Michels would not confirm the Journal's report, but said the hybrid braking system in the Prius would make the engine lose power if the brakes and accelerator were pressed at the same time."
Quote 2
"The brakes on the Prius also did not show wear consistent with having been applied at full force at high speeds for a long period"

It makes sense, the Prius should slow down easily, I think the driver wasn't even braking hard enough, the harder you brake in the prius the quicker your engine shuts off. How can that car do at least 94 miles when the top speed is around 98 MPH. Even worse, how can that car be going that fast when their are cars all over the road?
Their have been numerous cases of Toyota Prius suddenly accelerating, (FAKE INCIDENTS)
one of them was where a Lady hitting a wall, she said that her car just suddenly accelerated all of a sudden....(I doubt that, she might've hit the gas pedal, she was originally trying to hit the brakes instead) (Cops did agree that she was not providing enough details....)
another one was where this guy was entering a highway and all of a sudden near an intersection his car just shot up to 15 miles an hour unintentionally.....(Even cops do admit that was fake)
This is all the work of Lahood and the Government deliberately attacking Japanese car manufacture so they can bolster sales for US car manufacture so they can aid our economy....well congress and Obama...that won't work
back in years Toyota has been #1 throughout the world for quality. But after all these years they are becoming over confident that they didn't double check anymore the quality of the cars they are making these days. Instead of going for QUALITY, they instead hooked up into QUANTITY which deprived the customers welfare. They were so busy this past few years building new plants, designing new models and forget what is the reason why they were on top. QUALITY products. Now they'd lost it. Though, i believe that some people who showed up and claim this and that are not all true. I believe that there are also group of people that has an intention of taking advantage of Toyota's situation today for money. Others for political reason. And i believe, am sorry to say this that other car companies are also taking advantage of it too. Conspiracy can build up later for selfish pruposes of anyone and this could happen or is already start happening. We know Toyota has a problem lately but i don't think it is this extreme that almost everyday just all of a sudden after the news breakout more and more people came forward and/or will come forward to claim loses against Toyota for monetary fund. I am not a Toyota owner but i do own Pontiac, Chevy, Nissan, Mazda, Cadillac, Volks and Isuzu.
What about the hundreds of other accidents due to 'sudden acceleration' in Toyota vehicles which killed at least 39 other people in the U.S. (and four in Canada), including a California Highway Patrol officer and his family? Were they also 'staged' ?
The evidence over the past few years, including in Japan, points overwhelmingly to a serious design defect in many, if not all, Toyota vehicles
(including the Prius) which causes sudden acceleration and loss of control. It's also becoming more likely that the defect is electronic, not just floor mats and a sticky gas pedal.
The sooner the problem is fully acknowledged and dealt with, the sooner lives will not be tragically and needlessly lost.
