I can't afford the factory model which is about $500. There is a space to put in an additional component, but all that the electronic stores have offered me so far is to exchange the radio with the tape deck for one with a CD player. I still have a lot of tapes that I like, so I would like to be able to play tapes as well as CDs. And I don't want to trade in the car. At 120,000 miles, it still drives like a dream. Is it possible to add a CD player to my Toyota Camry 1995 stereo without losing the tape deck? You have a few options here. My recommendation is to use an add-on CD changer, which installs in your trunk, or under the seat (or anywhere else you have space) and operates through an FM modulator. Here is an example of one sold at Amazon:

This is a similar model with a wireless remote control

If you don't care for this model, there are many similar systems available that will work with any factory radio. Some require no wiring other than power and ground, as they use a low-range FM transmitter to send music to your factory radio. However, you'll get better performance from one that connects in line with your factory antenna. You will have less susceptibility to FM crosstalk and interference that way, although the wiring is a little harder. If you're not up to the task, any car stereo shop will be able to put one of these in for you. I'm kind of surprised that the stores you've been to haven't offered this solution. Is it possible to add a CD player to my Toyota Camry 1995 stereo without losing the tape deck?Have you thought about buying the factory CD player from a junk yard?
Or maybe Craig's List? Ebay?
Other than that your choices are a FM modulator (which will allow you to listen to a portable device like an MP3 player or CD player though the factory stereo tuned to an unused radio station)
OR a cassette adaptor (which will allow you to listen to an MP3 player or CD player through the factory tape deck).
Both of these options will NOT sound as good as a dedicated CD player (factory or aftermarket)Is it possible to add a CD player to my Toyota Camry 1995 stereo without losing the tape deck?yeah toyotas do go quite a long time. My cousin's 92 has 195K miles. I work on her all the time.
We replaced the radio a while back and it was a huge improvement in the sound.
u can use a portable cd player and use the tape deck adapter so u can connect a portable cd player or just buy a cheap flash drive MP3 player and use that because it won't skip like a portable tape player.
