Does it matter whether or not you use genuine Honda brakes and batteries?

One of our Honda dealers told us that the brake noises we were hearing on my parents' Honda Odyssey was due to the use of after-market brakes. We got the brakes done at our local Midas shop. We've taken our cars there for years, and they've always done a good job. Does it really matter if we use "Genuine Honda" parts for something as common as brakes? What about car batteries?Does it matter whether or not you use genuine Honda brakes and batteries?No, it shouldn't matter. In some cases, I've had better results with aftermarket brake pads and batteries than the original.



Honda doesn't make brake pads or batteries. They get them from outside suppliers. Its entirely possible they come from the same place Auto Zone, Midas, or NAPA gets them from.Does it matter whether or not you use genuine Honda brakes and batteries?

No it doesn't matter so long as you get quality parts. Fact of the matter is Honda doesn't make batteries, or brake parts or many other components. They slap a label on them when they come off the line same as everyone else.

Squealing doesn't necessarily mean the brakes are bad. It just depends on the characteristics of the brake pad. Also, using some brake lube on the back of the pad where it touches the caliper, and lubricating the caliper guide bolts helps reduce the noise also.



Also, if you are intent on saving some money, brake pad and rotor replacement is very easy. You should purchase the Honda OEM parts and replace them yourself to save money.



Honestly I would not worry too much about the noise. Take the wheel off and look at the brakes. If the rotor looks smooth and there is a lot of pad material left, and the vehicle stops properly, don't worry about the noise.Does it matter whether or not you use genuine Honda brakes and batteries?

It doesn't matter if you buy aftermarket parts as long as you get quality replacements. The parts store I worked at sold 4-6 types of brake pads for each vehicle. The cheapest 1-2 types usually created more dust and had a better chance of being noisy. If you have a problem with noise you should see if they will let you upgrade to a different type of brake pad. There are some ceramic pads out there that are specifically designed for low dust/low noise.



As far as batteries, you get what you pay for. I hardly ever buy a battery with less than a 3 year free replacement warranty. The more money you spend the longer it should last. I've found that aftermarket 3 year warranty batteries are usually as good as ones originally installed in cars.Does it matter whether or not you use genuine Honda brakes and batteries?
honda is trying to pull the wool over your eyes, it doesn't make one speck of difference if you use aftermarket parts on your car, they are probably better than the stuff honda uses and the parts are cheaper too.
